We had this tree... well, up until recently it had been 3 trees, a triple crown but when two of them came down in the field the third one was leaning more and more perilously over our backyard and our swimming pool.
It had to come down. But because it leaned over the pool and close enough to the house to do some damage I knew it would require special equipment and techniques to prevent the trunk from launching a truck or tractor into the house like a trebuchet. It was above my pay-grade. We had to call in experts. And we knew just who to call, Todd and his wife Kim Richards.
Fortunately, they were right in Pine Plains and I actually contacted them thr0ugh our high tech communications system -- running into them at Stewart's. They showed up the next morning.
Todd had quite a different approach. Take it down from the top! As you will see, this was a tall order.
When I told friends about the video and asked if they knew Todd and Kim there was usually pause and a thoughtful frown until they came up with "Oh, the Tree Couple!" And so that is how I named this sequence.

About 19 or 20 years ago, Todd took down a tree for us at our house on South Main. Logs were used as bases for 2 benches in our backyard. The plank 'seats' came from the roof of our barn when the roof was replaced. Some of the logs were used for firewood in our stove and the rest were placed upright in our back woods. This fall, I discovered that quite a few of these logs had been turned into artful sculptures by slugs dwelling within. These sculptures were exhibited at this year's FFA Fair along with 'live slugs' and flower arrangements made by Mrs. DeMarinis' 3rd Grade Class at Seymour Smith. At the time our tree was cut, Kim had just had her son and sat in Todd' truck with their infant. That tree is just about gone. The Richard's son has grown tall, into a fine young man, perhaps to carry on the family tradition o f felling trees according to 'natures' way' of growth and gravity.
