Pine Plains was in an area of summer camps and bungalow communities where people from the City came to get a taste of "country". It was also the home of the dude ranch, Roseland Ranch, recently closed and now up sale and development.
It has attracted its own very lively discussion forum on the Internet of people who visited and worked there over several decades. At the moment there are over 3,500 posts! Update: As of November 17, I have not been able to get the results of the auction. I will post as soon as I can find out its disposition.
Update: March 8, 2009. I drove by and took some pictures:
Not all that much has changed. The auction sign was taken down. The ranch sign fell, or was taken, half-way down.
It now looks so empty. I never knew much about Roseland, but when we drove by there was always activity and people looked as if they came up to have a good time and succeeded. Horses are a major part of my life and I enjoy seeing people introduced to riding and learning to care for horses.
Update: November 1, 2009:
So many people have visited this website just to find out more about Roseland Ranch that I decided to take a little drive this afternoon and shoot some Fall pictures.
Then I went down the road to the main entrance I saw a new For Sale sign:
I wish I had more to show and tell the people who have come to Pine Plains Views looking for good news about Roseland. All I can offer them is a warm invitation to explore the rest of the website!
Pine Plains was in an area full of camps and resorts.
Right in Pine Plains itself, where the Lions Club is now located, was Stissing Lake Camp. In the surrounding area are the remains of dozens of summer camps and some are still in business. I hope to bring some stories about them into this website because they were an important part of the history and culture of the community. And who knows? They may become part of its future.

The Ranch is up for sale via (Millbrook Realestate). Sharon Fischera lives in Poughkeepsie and last I knew she was working for GMC.

MY FAMILY SPENT MANY WEEKENDS AT THE RNCH, WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME, AND WE HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES. I HOPE WHOEVER PURCHASES IT WILL BRING IT BACK TO ITS FORMER GLORY.

Went to the Roseland Dude Ranch with family as a child and then a teen. Went with my husband when we married less than a year (married for 31 yrs now). Always had a great time, fond memories. Was just thinking about this place today and recommended it to a friend going to NY. I am shocked that they aren't there anymore, shocked and very sad

Information wanted. I went by the Roseland ranch on 7-15-09 only to see it getting rundown and the grass over grown. I never been there, but heard it was a great place. Whats the story behind it, why did it close, and is there any chance it will reopen.

Roseland Ranch was a family operated dude ranch. I don't know the exact date it opened. But i spend over 17 years between going there as a child on vacation to actually working there myself.
It was the place to be if you love horses, or any outdoor activity for that matter. It was a home away from home. Between the food, the entertainment and the family who could ask for anything more?
I was deeply saddened when i found out the news. I tried to go back, and took pics of it rundown. It is one memory that will never be erased in my past.
To the Fichera family, thank you for the great memories and for letting me be a "part" of the family. They took care of me when I worked there and i felt like family.
To everyone who went there. I thank you too. For being a part of history.
To everyone who never knew about Roseland. I'm sorry but you missed out. Disney world isn't the best place on earth to me, Roseland Ranch Resort was.

I had been going to Roseland Ranch for around 20 years.
My kids learned to ride there, and my wife and I improved our riding skills every year. It was a place where we would escape the real world for a weekend or 2 a year for many years.
The memories will last forever as the kids grew to adults and enjoyed the ranch as much as we did, we met many people there, share many good meals as the food was out of this world.
The owners Chickie Dominic and the many family members I thank you and my family thanks you.
Sonny is a person I will always remember as he really was a heck of a nice person RIP......
I could go on and on of our many stays there, even if it was to reopen 37 acres would not cut it but I will keep my eyes out for it and would still give it a try if it was to happen....

We are another family who loved Roseland Ranch. For years we would spend a long weekend there in the Winter. We have so many memories that make us laugh and also now make us sad because my kids who are 17 and 23 miss that annual trip there. It was a family outing which included aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We hope that we hear some good news about Roseland Ranch in the near future.

I'm Eddie the Bass Player formerly with the 4 Of a Kind Band country band and I played with my band there for years. I'm so said that they are closed. I miss Chicky, her daughter, the food and the staff there. I have so many fond memories and so much in my life has changed since. I'm with the Long Neck Country Band now and haved played and will continue to play at the Rocking Horse Ranch and although how fantastic they are and a wonderful place to play at nothing will ever replace the Roseland Ranch and my memories of it. I can only hope someday Chicky will come out of retirement and get that place back up and running and all those folks out there will bring themselves and their next generation to a wonderful fun filled time once again. 1964 The Internationals Played at the Ranch on Wed. and Sunday night and sometimes on Sat. I met the guitar player Tony, in 1967 and married him in 1970. The owners of Roseland, Papa Joe and Rose attended our wedding in Brooklyn NY. I went to Roseland since I was a child. I learned to ride there and also learned to clean out the stables. I worked there on week ends in my teen age years too. Dominic worked in the kitchen, who was once married to Chickie, the owners daughter. He was a wonderful cook, which was the main reason most peoople returned. I wish I knew where he was today. I know Sonny, the owners son has passed on a few years ago. It is very sad that such a wonderful place did not continue, I know Joe and Rose would be heart broken.
If you attended Roseland in the 60's I would love to hear from you. I remember Vinny from Staten Island and his brother. His parents also attended our wedding. Lloyd Patti was the dad.
Nice memories and a great beginning for us. We now have 3 girls and 6 grandchildren.

I grew up close to were Roseland Ranch is located and not that it really matters but the ranch is not located in Pine Plains. It's in the Town of Stanfordville. I never got the chance to go but the Ranch was always an attractions. It is very sad to see something from ones childhood be lost and forgotten. The pictures are sad indeed.

i started going to roseland when i was 12. now 54 and still missing it. i am so glad that i was able to take my stepdaughter shannon in 2003 and we had a blast. TO: jo-ann from staten island, omg do i ever remember vinnie and lloyd patti. vinnie was always my dance partner.

My family and our friends went up to Roseland Ranch a few times back in the early 90's. We had an absolute blast. It would be great to see the ranch open back up again!

my name is berry wilson IWORKED on the ranch in 1961. a friend of mine joe roberson and I came up there from houston texas just to work and wrangle dudes . it was a real experence and when I LOOK back now it was a blast you yankees are a lot of fun. joe and I left after 3 months to rodeo for a while an came back to houston a few months later.

Me and my family spend out summers at roseland ranch for years. Papa Joe and Rose along with Chicki was as close to us as family could get.
Looking back over those 20 plus years they were the best years of my life with my family. I thank you for all the memories and for all the friends that i met

I went to Roseland ranch many a times. Ine time was for my senior trip. You felt like family when you went there. Place like this just aren't around any more.

It literally broke my heart when I heard this place closed. I went there for YEARS with my mom. I even had a favorite horse (Graycloud). I know a lot of other people say this as well, which just goes to show how much this place meant to people.
Please, please keep up us all informed with any new news regarding the Ranch. I hope it can be bought and restored because I would love to go back!!
