A Day to Remember

Posted on May 28, 2015

A video medley of Memorial Day in Pine Plains:
The church BBQ chicken fund-raiser
The Parade (of course)
The opening of a new store in town
People enjoying each other and the Lake.

But it’s really about why we live here and, if you don’t, why you should come for a visit!

This is great Stan – I’m hoping more people both discover and visit your site to see the great people, places and things in and about Pine Plains that you have captured and preserved for all of us to appreciate both now and hopefully for years to come. Folks should also appreciate all the time and effort that you put into filming and making available tape of public meetings by the Town Board, Planning Board and ZBA to enable people to stay informed and involved. Hopefully the Town Board will make the funds available for equipment and posting so other volunteers can carry on that task and not have it fall solely on your shoulders. This is a great service you do for all of us. Thank you

Thanks so much for doing such a lovely piece on the new Emporium!! It is wonderful to have a record of that very special first day we opened.
So very grateful for the work you do, Stan, creating such wonderful documents of this beloved town.

WHY THIS WEBSITE

I came to Pine Plains by choice, not by chance of birth.

But the small-town rural community I chose is changing. The farmers have, for the most part, sold to people from the city and fields are becoming lawns.

And, like the land, people, too, are becoming subdivided as difference breeds distance rather than discourse.

I have been making these videos to preserve and reconstitute what I can of a changing way of life and to share it with the community.

On a more personal level, I am making this website as a way of holding on to the reasons why I came here.
