Riding High in Copake! The Antique Bicycle Auction

Posted on April 30, 2017

A whole world converged on Copake, NY, — the world of antique bicycle collectors! Why neighboring Copake which, unlike Pine Plains, does not even have ONE traffic light? Because of the 26th annual Antique Bicycle Auction at Copake Auction. They came from all over the country and Canada and parts of Europe just to buy, sell, talk, ride bicycles and hang out with each other.

Here is a post auction article on the Copake Auction website with details about the auction and sales results.

Update one year later

That bike from Columbia County that opened up the film did not make it into the auction but Mike Fallon put it in the auction the next year, in 2018.  Look what happened:

So, the moral of the story:  Never throw anything out!  You can never tell…

WHY THIS WEBSITE

I came to Pine Plains by choice, not by chance of birth.

But the small-town rural community I chose is changing. The farmers have, for the most part, sold to people from the city and fields are becoming lawns.

And, like the land, people, too, are becoming subdivided as difference breeds distance rather than discourse.

I have been making these videos to preserve and reconstitute what I can of a changing way of life and to share it with the community.

On a more personal level, I am making this website as a way of holding on to the reasons why I came here.
